In recent years, extreme weather events like hurricanes have destroyed big parts of coastal cities, and the process of rebuilding can take years. Certain communities have rebuilt at great expense, only to sustain more damage in the next storm. Some have argued that rising sea levels and extreme weather are making coastal living increasingly dangerous, and they want the government to help vulnerable communities relocate to safer areas. People living in these communities often feel rooted to their neighborhoods, however, and believe storm-resistant infrastructure can keep them safe. Listen to an architect explain the challenges faced by coastal cities and then debate: Should people move away from the coast?
