Southern Texas is a top destination for birdwatchers. Among the many birds people come to see, flocks of red-crowned parrots are a top draw. These beautiful, intelligent birds are the only parrots native to the U.S., and they are threatened by both habitat loss and pet poachers. Researchers studying parrot behavior hope that learning about parrot intelligence will make it easier to protect them.
